Eveyane Helny Jusitim ( 4 Alpha )

I have a story to tell. A story that still fresh in my mind. A story that my mother told me. Although I never had been there to experience it but I can feels and imagine it so clearly.
The story event happened on late 70’s where Sabah still lagging behind and a time that English was given priority which enable someone to be in a higher position and get respected from the society. The story begin with a girl who is my mother cousin named Suilin. She was the youngest child of seven siblings and an orphan since she was a little child. Suilin lived with her brother’s in Kampong Goshen and had early education in English from Goshen Adventist School. When she in form one, she goes to school by an old bicycle from Goshen to Pekan lama school – This school was shared together by SK and SMK.SMK was divided into two branches, the Malay and English educational system. Suilin was in English branch from form one until three. On the LCE examination which now known as PMR, she got Grade A’s and became among top student’s in her school.
When she is in form four, her desire to continue her study is big but Kota Marudu at that time still do not have form four. So, she registered in one of Kota Kinabalu English school but she facing a problem to find a place to live there. Fortunately, a woman who also lived in same kampong offered to help her finding a house to rent. The house owner was a Chinese’s family. Suilin can go to school like usual and sometimes she also helped the Chinese’s to babysitting their children.
Month goes by, school holiday came after but Suilin didn’t back to her kampong. Her brother and sister began to worry of her so they go to Kota Kinabalu to meet the house owner and asked where Suilin was. The Chinese’s man doesn’t want to talk more about Suilin’s missing. Then, her brother checked her note books to found out how long does she had gone. The last date Suilin wrote on her books was two month ago.
Feeling useless talking with the man, they then make missing report at Kota Marudu police department but the police seem didn’t give cooperation on investigating the case. They feel very disappointed. Meanwhile, Suilin’s brother tried to ask the woman about the Chinese’s family background but she refuse to tell. On one night, Suilin’s sister had dreamt that Suilin was been put in a deep dark hole to be sacrificed. That dream looks like giving them an indication about Suilin’s missing. The families of Suilin feel suspicious to the woman after she had built a new house and looked richer than before. So, their uncle made a random guess based on the dream that maybe the woman sell Suilin to the Chinese’s man then he used Suilin as a sacrifice for the Mamut spirit during the opening of Mamut mine. My mother told me that during that opening period; many people were reported missing including Suilin. People said the Ghost of Mamut earth need human sacrifice before letting the miner to mining the earth for brass. Sadly, they can’t do anything to sentence them to jail. Until now Suilin is still missing. We really hope that where ever she is whether she alive or not, may God blessing her. And this is the story of Suilin’s tragic life and I will always remember it.
